Curation

Maggie Munday curates group exhibitions of art and material culture that thread pieces together through shared story. She is excited about projects that welcome unexpected and interdisciplinary mediums into the gallery, such as poetry and community-sourced objects.

Archive as Action, Archive as Discourse

Collaborative curatorial project with School of the Art Institute's SITE Galleries, 2025

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s SITE Galleries and the 53rd anniversary of Northwestern University’s Dittmar Memorial Gallery, the two galleries are partnering to curate a cross-institutional exhibition featuring current student work surrounding archives.

Archive as Action, Archive as Discourse featured the work of more than twenty artists across both institutions that explore the archive as a repository of memory, contemplating themes of belonging, environment, childhood memory, and the body to construct narratives of the past, present, and future, as well as how these coalesce to a create modern narrative of today’s world.

Fabric of the Earth

Artworks by Bryana Bibbs, Bonnie Peterson, Daliah Silver, and Katie Vota, 2024

Fabric of the Earth features a collection of fiber-based works that convey the urgent state of climate change. This polyphonic exhibition weaves together diverse perspectives on ecology and environment, including works that focus on scientific studies, social justice, and our lived experiences in relationship to the natural world.  Each artist's approach to textile lends a nuanced and tactile perspective on the current state of our climate. Not only does it challenge our ties to the textile production industry and its role in climate change and injustice, it also makes concrete and tangible our sense of environmental dread.

Intentionally situated within a history of “craftivism,” the exhibition is marked by compelling conviction and prompting climate action for the sake of both planet and people alike. Fabric of the Earth features woven, sewn, quilted, and stitched artworks that welcome our community to intertwine our voices and stories to create the fabric of our future.

well versed

Dittmar Gallery's Annual Community Exhibition, co-curated with Ellie Lyons, 2024

Well Versed is an invitation to explore the intertwining of art and language through the unique medium of poetry. This art exhibit prompts visual artists in our community to create works inspired by poems that have touched their lives. Invoking reflection on a sweeping range of themes through a wide range of poetic works, each artist calls upon the visceral emotions and experiences that make us human.

The exhibit includes the art pieces created by members of our community coupled with the text of their poetic inspiration. Well Versed is a conversation that invites cross disciplinary fusion between the visual and literary arts to explore the heartbeat of the human experience.
